WAYLAND. Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A 43-year-old Rhode Island man is facing sexual assault charges after police found a missing 15-year-old Michigan girl in his home.
According a news release by the Warwick Police Department, officers acting on information from the Allegan County Sheriff's Office in Michigan conducted surveillance on the suspect, Charles J. Morancey in Rhode Island.
The missing girl was found in the man's home, a warrant was obtained from Allegan County, and he was arrested without incident.
Morancey faces four felony counts of third-degree sexual assault, along with along a charge of fugitive from justice.
Authorities said Morancey met the girl on social media and traveled to Michigan to pick her up. While she was first considered a runaway case, the teen was later deemed missing and endangered. She was reported missing by her family in the Wayland area, south of Grand Rapids, on Friday, August 2, after she was last seen at around 3:30 p.m. that day.
The girl's father told WOOD-TV that Morancey is a "professional predator" whom he believes was grooming the teen.
"Any little predator or pedophile out there, I hope you see this. I hope you know, sooner or later, you will be caught. Someone is going to get you and you will be put in prison for the rest of your days," he said.
Morancey is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
