SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has released additional Oakland County measles exposure locations, amid an outbreak that has sickened at least 34 people.
Added to the list on Wednesday are the following:

There have been 34 confirmed cases of the measles this year in the state; 33 cases in Oakland County, and one in Wayne County -- the highest number in Michigan since 1991. So far, infected patients rage from 8 months to 63 years old.
Measles is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable disease that is spread by direct person-to-person contact, and through the air. Just one person with measles can infect 12 to 18 others, according to health officials, who are strongly urging vaccination.
If you were at the above or below locations on the dates and times listed, you were at risk of being exposed to measles. Note that vaccination is effective within 72 hours of exposure, the health department said, and at-risk individuals can receive immune globulin treatment within six days of exposure.

Watch for signs and symptoms for 21 days after possible exposure, including: High fever (may spike to over 104˚F), cough, runny nose, red and/or watery eyes, tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gu,s and roof of the mouth and/or a rash that is red, raised, blotchy; usually starts on face, spreads to trunk, arms, and legs 3-5 days after symptoms begin.
Meanwhile, 11 Michigan hospital organizations that have a special focus on children's health are joining public health officials and agencies across the state to urge people to get vaccinated to protect against measles, pertussis (whooping cough), mumps, chicken pox, the flu, and other serious vaccine-preventable diseases -- including Beaumont Health, Children's Hospital of Michigan, Henry Ford Health System and McLaren Health Care,
The best protection against measles is the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.
"Measles is highly contagious and can have especially serious health consequences for children, so we urge Michigan parents to get their kids vaccinated," said Luanne Thomas Ewald, CEO of Children's Hospital of Michigan and chairperson of the MHA Council on Children's Health. "Some people think of measles as just a little rash and fever that clears up in a few days, but measles can cause serious health complications, especially in children younger than five years of age."
