(WWJ) Eastpointe police are searching for a suspect who opened fire into a backyard, killing a man and injuring a woman.
It happened early Sunday morning, as police say people were at a home for a "small gathering" — possibly in celebration for the 4th of July — on Ridgecroft Ave., near Stephens Road, west of I-94.
A little after 1 a.m., police said an unknown man with a long gun appeared in the driveway and fired multiple rounds at the group.
Police and EMS responded, and two gunshot victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
A 42-year-old man was shot in the stomach, police said, and died from his injuries. A 42-year-old woman who was shot in the led is recovering from injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Monday morning, the investigation was ongoing.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Eastpointe Police Det. Bureau at 586-445-5100, Ext. 1028. Also, residents living in the area who have any outdoor home security video they are willing to share with investigators are asked to check recordings for an suspicious activity around the time of the shooting.
No suspects have been described and no name have been released.
