15-Year-Old Pontiac Boy Sets Self On Fire

lighter

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Pontiac teen is receiving treatment for burns after apparently setting himself on fire.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies and Waterford firefighters were called to a home on Robinwood Avenue around 11:20 p.m. Thursday on reports of a house fire. Upon arrival, they found and extinguished a small fire that had been confined to the outside corner of the house. Deputies also observed a charred portion of siding, a gas can and a plastic trash can placed against the outside of the home.

A 15-year-old boy at the home was suffering from serious burns to his lower extremities and was transported to the hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

The boy's grandfather told deputies that the teen has "anger issues" and often "sets things on fire" when he gets angry. The grandfather said the teen ran into the house with his pants on fire, so he tried to extinguish the flames and then called for help.

The incident remains under investigation.
