17-Year-Old Charged In Series Of Sexual Assaults, Robberies In Detroit

(WWJ) A teenager has been charged with a series of crimes including rape, indecent exposure, armed robbery and more in Detroit. 

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy on Wednesday announced the case against 17-year-old Jaden Deangelo Jones of Detroit, in connection with multiple alleged crimes over two days in the city. 


A 17-year-old is an adult under Michigan law when charged with a crime.

"The evidence in these cases are very alarming. The defendant's alleged actions are frightening, and the violence escalating," said Worthy, in a statement. 

Taking a look at each individual incident, authorities say the first took place at around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4. 

According to prosecutors, Jones exposed himself to, and sexually assaulted a 41-year-old woman in the 20200 block of Grand River Avenue.

Jones has been charged with two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct – Fourth Degree and one count of Indecent Exposure, and was arraigned on Aug, 24 in 36th District Court. Bond was set at $50,000/10%. 

In a second alleged incident, just about one hour after the first, investigators say Jones approached a 36-year-old woman, in the 15700 block of Pierson Street, and made sexual remarks toward her.

When the victim told Jones to leave, it's alleged that he fired a single shot in her direction. Fortunately, the woman was not injured.

In that case Jones was arranged on a charge of Felonious Assault. Bond was set at $500,000 cash/surety.

The third incident took place the next day at around 8:50 p.m., according to investigators, on Verne Street near Westmoreland Road  

It's  alleged that Jones approached a 67-year-old woman as she was walking down the street, and then robbed her at gunpoint. After that, prosecutors say, Jones followed the victim to her home and touched her buttock.  When they approached the woman's house on Westmoreland Road, Jones saw that her husband was outside, and he ran away.

In that case Jones was arraigned on charges of Armed Robbery, Criminal Sexual Conduct – Second Degree, Felonious Assault and three counts of Felony Firearm. He received a $100,000/10% bond. 

The fourth alleged crime took place about an hour after the third, in the 16600 block of Lahser Road. 

While sitting on a park bench with an acquaintance, it is alleged that Jones pulled out a gun and robbed a 43-year-old woman. He sexually assaulted her at gunpoint, investigators say. 

In that case, Jones was arraigned on one count of First Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct, two counts of Armed Robbery, two counts of Felonious Assault and six counts of Felony Firearm. Bond was set at $2 million cash or surety. 

Authorities believe there may be additional victims.

Jones' next scheduled court appearance is a Probable Cause Conference set for Friday.
