3 Dead, 3 Others Injured After Deadly Night On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit police are investigating a number of incidents that left three people dead and three others injured on what was a deadly Saturday night on the city's west side.

Around 8:30 p.m., police say a 49-year-old man, a 46-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man were shot in the 14500 block of Griggs Street -- near Lyndon Street and Wyoming Avenue in the Littlefield neighborhood -- by someone they knew.


Police say the three victims were at the location for a gathering when an argument broke out, resulting in the suspect pulling out a gun and firing multiple shots, striking all three victims. The suspect fled the scene on foot. Authorities have not provided a description of the man, but are searching for him.

The 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other man and the woman were taken to a hospital to be treated. They were both listed in temporary serious condition.

Earlier in the day, police responded to the 18700 block of Faust Avenue -- just west of the Southfield Freeway and south of 7 Mile Road -- after a 51-year-old woman was shot. The victim had driven to a the house of someone she knew to pick up some items around 4:30 p.m., but when she showed up, the suspect fired shots into her vehicle, striking the woman, according to police.

The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition. Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and say the suspect is not in custody.

Around 4 a.m. Sunday in the 20000 block of Rosemont -- near the Southfield and Pembroke Avenue -- a 23-year-old man was just getting home and stepping out of his vehicle when two armed suspects emerged from his back yard and fired shots, fatally wounding him.

The suspects, both described as black males in their 20s, were wearing dark clothes and fled the scene in an unknown direction. Police are still investigating the incident and are asking for anyone with tips to contact the Detroit Police Department's homicide unit at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. 

In addition to the gun violence Saturday on the west side, a man was walking in the road area of McNichols and Stansbury -- near Sinai Grace Hospital -- around 2 a.m. when he was struck by a dark colored sedan.

The driver did not stop and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash is asked to call the Detroit Police Fatal Squad at 313-596-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
