(WWJ) Michigan State Police made more than 300 traffic stops during a targeted enforcement effort in Oakland County's Royal Oak Township.
The traffic crackdown ran from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, in the area of 8 Mile Rd. and Wyoming Ave.
MSP said, within that five-hour period, troopers with the Metro North Motor Unit wrote 63 tickets for seatbelt violations, 19 for speeding and 17 for distracted driving, while other drivers were given warnings.
State Police also arrested 31 people on misdemeanor charges and took one person into custody for carrying a concealed weapon with a CCW permit.
Royal Oak Township is one of nine townships that State Police patrol in the Second District, which covers Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties.
Further details about the cited drivers were not released.
On Friday, State Police forwarded drivers of another traffic crackdown to the west, in MSP's First District.
MSP said troopers would be out on I-69 and I-96 in Eaton County on August 21, with the goal to reduce and prevent crashes and keep people safe. "HELPFUL HINT: If you drive posted speeds & #BuckleUp you can just wave at them when you drive by," MSP said, in a tweet.
The First District tweeted a couple of photos from traffic stops were drivers were caught speeding at more than 90 mph. on the freeway. "And this is why we are out here," MSP said.
