SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) -- An elderly man is dead and his wife is in critical condition after a crash near Stony Creek Metropark Monday morning.

Shelby Township police say they were dispatched to the scene at 26 Mile Road and Main Park Drive just before 11 a.m. Monday on the report of a crash.

An initial investigation revealed that an 84-year-old man driving a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee was headed west on 26 Mile and went into the turnaround to enter Stony Creek Metropark. As the Jeep was crossing the eastbound lanes of 26 Mile, it collided by a 2016 Dodge Ram that was headed east on 26 Mile.

The 84-year-old man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His 84-year-old wife was also in the Jeep and sustained critical injuries, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 26-year-old man from Armada, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was expected to recover.

Police have not released the names of anyone involved in the crash.
