Alligator Or Crocodile Sightings Reported In Clinton River

(WWJ) Residents along the Clinton River in Macomb County are on the lookout for a sizable reptile at large.

WWJ's Mike Campbell reports there have been multiple alleged sightings of an alligator or crocodile in the river in Harrison Township.

While there are no conclusive photos or videos of the animal just yet, the Macomb County Sheriff's Animal Control division is investigating.

According to WDIV-TV, some locals said they spotted a crocodile up close, while others reported seeing ducks with missing legs and feathers. One witness told Local 4 News, “It was just swimming over there, came up out of the water. It had seen me and then went back down in the water."

A WDIV camera crew captured and enhanced an image of what looked like a crocodile head on the surface of the water (See it in a video HERE).

Campbell didn't see any lizards around when he ran into Doyle Ferguson out walking in Shadyside Park along the river Tuesday morning.

"Real cool, it's fine. I was out there by myself; I go out here every morning," said Ferguson, who spotted "nothing scary" in the water.

"All I've seen is muskrats and turtles and catfish — that's it," he told Campbell, adding that there was also a heron in the river this particular morning.

Ferguson is not too worried about encountering any alligators on his walks.

"It's too cold for them to be out here!" he said.

Anyone who catches the alligator or crocodile on camera can contact the sheriff's office at 586-469-5151.
