Arctic Cold Front Hits Metro Detroit With Snow Showers

winter cold weather

DETROIT (WWJ) -  An Arctic cold snap that is sweeping through the United States hit metro Detroit Wednesday morning and it brought along some snow.

Forecasters say scattered snow showers will progress through the area this morning and a few of those showers will produce brief but heavy snow.

"These snow showers and squalls could lead to very poor visibility, could be maybe a 20-30 second whiteout condition as you're driving," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore. "And then slippery spots galore here with these temperatures ending up in the teens today."

Temperatures will only reach the upper teens to lower 20s Wednesday in wake of the passing arctic cold front. Gusty winds will also produce wind chills near zero through the afternoon.

"Please be dressed for real feels in the single digits and teens as we go through the rest of the day," said DeVore.

Here's a look at the forecast from the WWJ Weather Team:

Wednesday -- Scattered snow showers and flurries. Partly sunny with a temperature falling to around 20 by 5 p.m. Wind gusts as high as 30 mph. Low around 12.

Thursday -- Partly sunny, breezy with gusts as high as 20 mph. High near 30. Low 23.

Friday -- Partly sunny. High 36. Low around 28.
