No Threat Found After Bloomfield Hills High School Evacuated

BLOOMFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - The all clear has been given at Bloomfield Hills High School, after police swept the school for a possible threat.

The school was evacuated and locked down at around noon on Thursday, according to a school official, after the BluePoint emergency alert system was activated — meaning that an alarm was pulled by a student, or it malfunctioned.

"We follow a run, hide, fight method so some students evacuated and others locked down," the district's Director of Communications Shira Good explained.

There have been no reports of injuries,  evidence of an "active event," and officials now believe it was a false alarm.

Early in the afternoon, evacuated students took shelter from the cold in a nearby Lifetime Fitness gym, Starbucks, and at the police station.

In an update later, Good said those students would be taken by bus to the Bloomfield Township Library, the chosen reunification site, where families were directed to pick them up.

Officials said staff were also sent to the reunification site to support any students who need to speak with someone regarding their experience, and that staff would be "available to support the emotional needs of all students."

The public was urged to stay away from the high school, and all other Bloomfield Hills schools were under a "Shelter In Place" order.

It remains unclear why the alarm went off. The investigation is ongoing.
