(WWJ) Border agents are showing off a massive pile of marijuana following a bust involving a garbage truck in Southwest Detroit.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials say they found 418 lbs. of pot inside a municipal waste hauler at the Fort Street Cargo Facilitly, early in the morning of Friday, June 18.

The driver, identified as a Canadian citizen, was sent for an inspection after crossing the Ambassador Bridge; and it was during the x-ray and search that agents found "several odd shapes" in the rear of the hauler.

The odd shapes turned out to be 15 trash bags of weed, according to CBP.

The driver was arrested by federal officials.

"This seizure once again demonstrates the vigilance of CBP Officers – even during these trying times," said Devin Chamberlain, Detroit Port Director, in a statement.  "I am proud of our Officers and grateful for their attention to detail that ultimately prevented this illicit cargo from entering our country."

While it's legal in Michigan to posses marijuana in certain amounts, and to sell it with a license, pot remains a controlled substance under federal law and illegal to bring across the border.

The driver is facing charges of possession and transportation of illegal drugs.  His name was not immediately released.
