SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - Police are asking for tips from the public as they seek to identify a couple of people who paid for their frozen custard with counterfeit cash.

The cops asked for help in a tongue-in-cheek personals style post on the department's Twitter and Facebook page:

"**MISSED CONNECTION** You are late 40's, well dressed, and love a frozen treat. I am not as old as I feel, dressed in blue, and really just want to to talk to you about some funny money that ended up in the register," police wrote.

A security camera image accompanying the post shows a man and woman preparing to place an order at the popular Custard Spot, located at 21 Mile Rd. and Van Dyke Ave.

Police are not calling the pair in the picture "suspects" at this time, as they acknowledge investigators yet don't know where the phony money originated, or whether the people who used it were aware that it was fake.

At this point, police just want to speak with them.

"These people may or may not have known, but we can't know that until we talk to them," police said. "So hopefully someone can put us in touch with them."

Anyone who knows the people in the photos or who has other information that could help with the investigation is asked to call Det. Johnson at 586-731-2121 ext. 348.
