(WWJ) Another jump in new cases, and in related deaths, as state health officials report the latest coronavirus counts for Michigan.
There have now been 7,615 total cases of the virus confirmed in Michigan, with a total of 259 deaths attributed to COVID-19, according to the official daily numbers released Tuesday afternoon. The new numbers, reported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, include 1,117 new cases and 75 additional deaths since this time on Monday.
The numbers show the oldest fatal victim in the state was 107 years old, while the youngest was 25.
Also important to note: As more and more tests are being administered every day, a large number of Michiganders have tested negative for the virus. Nearly 19,000 of the almost 25,000 people tested were negative.

It was three weeks ago today that the State of Michigan confirmed its first two cases of COVID-19.
While Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel says Detroit remains the "epicenter" of COVID-19 in the state, officials in Macomb County expect the numbers there to continue to rise "exponentially" in the coming weeks. The county has posted a "heat map" showing hotspots for the virus in the county. [GET DETAILS HERE]
The three main symptoms of coronavirus are fever, cough and shortness of breath. In order to mitigate risk of spreading COVID-19, everyone is encouraged to take action to reduce the spread, including: wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer; avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands; cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; avoid handshakes; avoid contact with people who are sick; and stay home when you are sick. Officials are urging social distancing -- staying at least six feet away from other people -- to help flatten the curve.
