DETROIT (WWJ) -- A dog is on the mend after being found in a trash can on Detroit's west side by the Michigan Humane Society.

MHS posted photos of the female dog on social media Tuesday, showing her on the top of a trash bin that was on the side of the road. The dog recently gave birth, but officials said they could not find the puppies.

A spokesperson with the humane society says the dog was found in the area of 7 Mile Road and the Southfield Freeway. It was not clear if or when the dog would be available for adoption.

Officials are asking for the public's help in finding where the puppies may be or who is responsible for dumping the dog in the trash. Anyone who has information is asked to call the Michigan Humane Society at 313-872-3401.
