DEARBORN, Mich. (WWJ) -- Cleanup efforts are underway after a train crash in Dearborn that spilled fuel onto the road.

The spill left the I-94 eastbound and westbound exits to and from Schaefer Highway closed for several hours as crews worked to clean up the spill. The freeway remained open, but the ramps were closed, as an undisclosed amount of diesel fuel spilled onto the ramps.

It was not clear what led to the crash, but Michigan State police said the fuel was spilling into the sewage system near the freeway.

MSP said there were no injuries reported. Dearborn police were handling the crash and the investigation.

The crash, which happened shortly after 8:30 p.m., was near the Ford River Rouge Complex.

Dearborn police say the locomotive can hold up to 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel.

The ramps were expected to remain closed for several more hours.
