DETROIT (WWJ) - A section of I-96 on Detroit's west side has reopened following a deadly accident overnight.

The crash happened around 12:50 a.m. Thursday along the eastbound local lanes of I-96 at Fullerton, near Greenfield Road.

Michigan State Police say a driver lost control of their vehicle, which went up the embankment and then rolled over. The driver, who police say was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.

Police didn't say if drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The freeway was closed for just over five hours while police were investigating at the scene, but has since reopened to traffic.
