DETROIT (WWJ) - The National Weather Service has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning for waterfront neighborhoods in Wayne and Monroe counties, in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday.

Forecasters say strong east winds are generating elevated wave action and increasing water levels along the western Lake Erie shoreline.

In Gibraltar, Horse Island will be restricted to residents only if the water level gets too high. Monroe County has portable storm water pumps set up to deal with any potential floods.

Residents on or near the shore in the warned area should be alert for rising water and take appropriate action to protect life and property.

Here's a look at the forecast from the WWJ Weather Team:

Thursday -- Occasional morning rain. High 68. Low 51.

Friday -- Sunny to partly cloudy. High 58. Low 46.

Saturday -- Increasing cloudiness. High 61. Low 57.

Sunday -- Some morning showers. High 68. Low 50.

Monday -- Partly sunny. High 63. Low 44.
