WARREN (WWJ) - Lipari Foods is again expanding a voluntary recall to include more sandwiches that might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The Warren-based company says 52 additional varieties of its Premo and Fresh Grab sandwiches have been added to the initial recall, which was announced earlier this month and expanded last week.
The recall now includes all sandwiches with a Best By date of 2/6/20 and prior, due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The products were distributed to food service and retail stores throughout Michigan and 14 other states including Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
