MACOMB TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Two schools in Macomb County are closed for the day Friday amid a police search for thieves in the area.
Sheriff's deputies are actively searching for a group of suspects who were trying to steal tires and rims from cars. Authorities say several suspects ran away from deputies just after 8 a.m.
The search is focused in an area on Card Road south of 23 Mile Road in Macomb Township.
At least one person has already been taken into custody.
Police don't think the suspects are armed, but the Chippewa Valley School District has closed Shawnee Elementary and Little Turtle Preschool as a precaution.
