MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) - An investigation is underway after a gas station clerk in Macomb County shot a man multiple times Saturday night.

Macomb County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Renee Yax says a man entered the Mobil gas station at Hall and Heydenreich Roads in Macomb Township around 8 p.m. Saturday and hit a clerk over the head with a glass bottle.

The clerk then fired shots at the suspect, striking him in the abdomen multiple times.

That man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital, where he remained Sunday afternoon. Police did not disclose his condition.

The clerk was evaluated by medics, but was not seriously injured, according to the sheriff's office.

Police have not said what may have led the suspect to hit the clerk in the head. Yax says authorities planned to review surveillance footage Sunday to see if the incident was caught on camera.
