MADISON HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A young Madison Heights woman is hospitalized after she was shot in the face.
Police said the 20-year old victim was with others inside a home in the 26000 block Wolverine Street, in the area of John R Rd. and Lincoln, Wednesday night.
The victim was conscious when she was taken to Ascension St. John Hospital, where staff called police. Her condition is unknown, but she able to speak with the officers.
Witnesses back at the house told investigators the shooting was an accident; that the gun went off as it was being improperly handled.
It's unclear if anyone will face charges in the shooting. Police said they were following up on leads as the investigation continues.
The woman's name was not released.
