DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A man is in custody after Michigan State Police say he hit a trooper with his car door while fleeing a traffic stop.
It happened Wednesday, according to police, after a trooper with the Metro South Post stopped an Audi four-door for a traffic violation in Dearborn Heights.
While he was speaking to the driver, with the driver's door open, the driver suddenly accelerated away, striking the troopers leg with the door, police said.
Police ran the car's license plate -- a dealership plate -- and the dealer provided video to investigators that showed the suspect picking up the loaner vehicle.
The trooper who was hit was able to make a positive identification of the suspect, police said, and the MSP fugitive team responded to the dealership and waited for the suspect to return the car as previously arranged.
When the suspect arrived, he was arrested without incident.
He remains behind bars on multiple expected charges. His name is being withheld pending prosecutor review and his arraignment.
