Orion Twp. Man Arrested At Ohio Waterpark After Alleged Assault, Kidnapping

(WWJ) An Oakland County man is in custody after it's alleged he assaulted his estranged wife, kidnapped their children and took them to a waterpark.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, 23-year-old Orion Township man kicked in the door of the 36-year-old victim's home on Deerfield Ln. in Pontiac on Tuesday. 

After being told to leave, officials say the man and proceeded to assaulted the woman. "He struck her multiple times in the face with a closed fist and then began to strangle her," according to the sheriff's office.

The man's current girlfriend, a 28-year-old Orion Township resident, separated the two and the couple fled with the children in a white 2009 GMC Sierra Denali.

Investigators were able to track the suspect and the kids — a 1-year-old girl two 2-year-old girls — to a waterpark in Erie County, Ohio Tuesday night. 

The man was arrested and lodged in the Erie County Jail on expected charges of parental kidnapping and assault. 

Sheriff's officials say the children are accounted for and OK, and Child Protective Services has been notified about what happened. 

Warrants and extradition back to Michigan for the suspect were still pending on Wednesday.
