BELLAIRE, Mich. (WWJ) -- A Michigan deer hunter is facing prison time for fatally shooting another hunter on the opening day of firearm deer season last fall.

David Barber of Gaylord was found guilty by an Antrim County Jury on charges of involuntary manslaughter, felony firearm and tresspassing.

Officials say Barber, 46, was hunting near the Village of Alden -- about 20 miles northeast of Traverse City -- on Nov. 15, 2018, when he shot 38-year-old Justin Beutel of Sanford, Mich. Police were called to the area on the report of a hunting accident and found Beutel with a gunshot wound.

First responders attempted to administer aid to Beutel, but he succombed to his injuries.

Barber was identified as a suspect shortly after the shooting, but officials said it appeared he and Beutel did not know each other and were hunting seperately.

Barber's sentencing date has not yet been determined.
