(WWJ) - Authorities say a woman who has been missing for more than a month apparently climbed onto the roof of her cabin, where she told a friend she was involved in a shootout with two men before she vanished.
Adrienne Quintal, 47, was last seen downstate in early October as she was headed to Honor, Michigan -- west of Traverse City -- to go to her family's cabin to relax with her boyfriend. She was last heard from on Thursday, Oct. 17, when she called a friend in Warren at 2:34 a.m. asking for help, officials said.
Quintal told the friend she was involved in a shootout with two men, one of whom she shot in the face. After speaking for 4 minutes and 27 seconds, the friend called 911. Police were first given an incorrect address. When officers finally arrived at the cabin at 3:15 a.m., they noticed multiple bullet holes in a window but Quintal was nowhere to be found.
Detectives determined that several shots had been fired from inside the cabin, out. No shots had been fired into the cabin, according to police, and there was no blood. All the doors were locked and some windows were open.
Police believe at some point, Quintal climbed up to the roof of the home, where she left her boots and phone -- the one she used to call her friend for help. Quintal's empty 9 mm handgun was found on the ground below, and her purse was inside the cabin.
A vehicle at the scene was registered to Quintal's boyfriend, who left the cabin days earlier in another vehicle to return to the metro Detroit area.
Authorities have searched the woods around the cabin but have found no further signs of Quintal. Earlier this week, authorities asked deer hunters to look for any signs of Quintal as they head into the woods.
At this point, police have three theories as to what may have happened:
"The first theory is that something medical happened with her; maybe she got into some bad drugs and, you know, shot the place up and the ran off into the woods," Benzie County Sheriff Ted Schendel told WWJ's Beth Fisher. "The second theory, obviously, is that she was abducted. And the third is that she may have staged this...So those are the three avenues that we are currently working."
Quintal, who goes by the nickname "Ada," is described as a white female with long brown hair and brown eyes. She is 5'7'' tall and weighs around 125 lbs.
Until Nov, 30, her family is offering $20,000 for information that leads to Quintal's location. After that, the reward will go back down to $10,000.
