DETROIT (WWJ) - The Girl Scouts are adding a new cookie to their luscious lineup: Lemon-Ups.
Amanda Thomas, vice president of customer support at Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, says each new cookie will carry a message, meant to reflect what the Girl Scouts stand for:
So what are they like?
Lemon-Ups are crunchy cookies, similar to the popular Thin Mints, but without the chocolate.
"They did a lot of consumer research into what our customers wanted, what flavor customers like," Thomas said. "...And the demand seems to be there for a lemon cookie, but I think they wanted to change it up a little bit and give customers something kinda new to look forward to — as they're coming back to their old favorite Thin Mints and their Tagalongs — give them something new to look forward to."
A serving size, which is two cookies, contains 140 calories, 6g of fat, 7g of sugar and 20g of carbs.
Are they worth it?
WWJ's Jon Hewett reports that if reaction at a media taste test at the Fisher Building is any indication, Lemon-Ups will be a big seller for the scouts.
Allison, who will be selling the cookies, got to try them, too.
"If somebody told me scale one to 10, I would pick 10," the 10-year-old scout said. "It's like very lemony, and very soft and hard at the same time."
Girl Scouts begin taking cookie orders this month. Delivery will take place in February, when booths will open, too.
