NOVI, Mich. (WWJ) -- Novi police say they are presenting their investigative findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office regarding a pair of incidents at Detroit Catholic Central High School last month.
The police department says it began investigating, with the help of school administrators, on Oct. 25 after a threatening social media post made reference to the high school. The investigation was launched after a student told their parent that a person wearing a "Guy Fawkes" mask from the movie "V for Vendetta" was "making unsettling statements via social media to students at the high school," according to police.
An investigation led police to identify three Catholic Central students who were accomplices to the original poster of the content, who police said is "an individual who lives with his parents in Ohio." The ages of anyone involved were not disclosed.
Following that investigation, on Oct. 31, another picture of "Guy Fawkes" was being circulated among Catholic Central students with the claim that people would be wearing the masks the next day during All Saints Day Mass at the school and would begin killing.
Additional investigators were brought in at that point and were able to identify the original poster of the new message -- another Catholic Central student, who police say was not related to the first incident.
Authorities say all five individuals have been identified and spoken to by law enforcement officials.
The prosecutor's office will review the findings and consider possible charges. The criminal acts involved are punishable by a charge up to a 20-year felony for making terroristic threats, according to police.
The school will be levying applicable school discipline to the four students involved.
Classes are scheduled to resume normal activity on Tuesday. The school was closed Monday for a faculty/staff in-service day. "The Novi Police Department and Detroit Catholic Central remain steadfast in providing a safe learning environment for all students. Any and all threats made against the schools, students, and staff will be fully investigated by all means necessary," police said in a statement.
