TAYLOR (WWJ) - A young man is dead after he was hit by an SUV in Taylor early Wednesday morning.
Police say the man was walking in the right lane on southbound Telegraph Road around 4 a.m. when he was struck by a Chevy SUV that was changing lanes near Pennsylvania Road.
"The driver stopped immediately and rendered aid but unfortunately, the person was deceased on the scene," Police Chief John Blair told WWJ's Charlie Langton.
At this time, police aren't sure why the man was walking in the road.
"It's a dark area, there's not a whole lot of businesses around there, so we can only speculate what they might be doing," said Blair.
It's unclear if the rainy weather conditions played a role in the crash, but police say speed and alcohol were not factors.
Investigators are still trying to identify the victim, a white male believed to be between 15- and 25-years-old.
Southbound Telegraph Road was closed for several hours while police were investigating the scene, but has since reopened to traffic.
