Police Investigating After Ferndale Home Shot Up Overnight

Bullet hole in the window

(WWJ) Ferndale Police are investigating after someone fired shots into a home in a neighborhood on the city's east side overnight.

Officer Jill Mahlmeister said, thankfully, no one was hurt when multiple rounds penetrated the walls of the house, on Almont St. at E. 9 Mile Rd. and Woodward Ave., at around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"Inside the house was two adult females and then a 15-year-old daughter sleeping," Mahlmeister told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeill.

"Officers arrived and their on-scene investigation revealed that it appeared to be a drive-by shooting," she said, adding that a vehicle parked outside the home was also hit by gunfire.

The suspect fled the scene in an unknown vehicle.

Mahlmeister said it appears that this was not a random act, and that police believe someone in the house was targeted.

There have been no arrests, no suspects have been named, and Mahlmeister said police are still investigating a possible motive.

While drive-by shootings are rare in Ferndale, Mullmeister noted a house on Bennett Street was shot up back in April. In that incident, a 19-year-old woman was shot and wounded while asleep in her bed.

Anyone with information about this crime can call Ferndale Police at 248-541-3650, or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK UP (1-800-773-2587).
