(WWJ) Two people are dead in what's being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide in Westland.

Early Sunday morning, Westland police say they responded to an OnStar panic button notification to find Deandree Watson of Detroit, dead inside of his vehicle in the 37000 block of Willow Ln.

While police are not saying how he was killed, they said Watson was the apparent victim of a homicide

During the investigation, officers followed up at a nearby apartment where they discovered a second person, Deontez Jones of Westland, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"These incidents appear to be connected as both were known associates of one another," police said in a statement, noting that the investigation is still ongoing.

Watson was an aide to Detroit City Councilman James Tate, who called it a "devastating loss."

"It hit us like a ton of bricks," Tate told WWJ City Beat Reported Vickie Thomas. "When I found out...he is the absolute opposite person that you would think would've found themselves involved in that type of situation involving foul play."

"(Watson) was always conscientious," Tate added. "A progressive young man who, you know, who was, in a way a bit of a conscience in my office, guided me on a number of different issues."

Tate said Watson was looking forward to attending law school in the fall.
