(WWJ) The woman at the center of the controversy surrounding fired University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is speaking out.

Paige Shiver, who worked as Moore's assistant, sat down with ABC's Good Morning America, sharing her side of the story for the first time since Moore was arrested.

Shiver said the four year relationship between her and Moore was consensual at first, but she felt trapped in over time.

Shiver said Moore manipulated her, "had complete control" over her — both her emotions and her career — and he used it against her.

Shiver said when she tried to end the relationship, more than once, Moore would threaten suicide or plead with her not to leave.

"Every time I tried to pull away he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in, and making me feel that I couldn't leave him, because he was so miserable without me," Shiver said in the interview.

Did she love him?

"Back then, umm, I did, " Shiver said. "But obviously looking back at things and really reflecting on what happened, what was happening ... Yeah, that's not love at all."

At one point, Shiver became pregnant. She wanted to keep the baby, she said in the GMA interview, but there were complications from by Pompe disease, which causes muscle weakness. She ultimately had an abortion.

"Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn't be right or healthy for me to keep the baby," Shiver said.

The university fired Moore after the relationship came to light, although Shiver said some leadership knew about the affair long before his firing.

The day he lost his job, Shiver said Moore texted her that he hated her and "there's blood on your hands."

Moore came to Shiver's house, pushed his way in, and threatened to harm himself. In the GMA interview, Shiver said she feared for her life and asked him repeatedly to leave.

Moore was arrested, took a plea deal on misdemeanor charges, and was sentenced to 18 months probation.

Moore's attorney says that chapter of Moore's life is closed.

The university said it acted correctly in firing Moore, and that an investigation into the situation is ongoing.
