DETROIT (WWJ) - A construction worker was sent to the hospital after a partial retaining wall collapsed in Detroit.
The incident happened Friday night along southbound Lodge Freeway at 7 Mile Road.
Michigan State Police say the construction worker was injured by falling debris when a quarter-mile of the retaining wall fell. The worker was transported for treatment of what were described as minor injuries.
"Contractors were saw cutting concrete in the area so it's going to end up being something that was caused by the work being done," MDOT Spokesperson Diane Cross said live on WWJ. "The walls are fine, no problems with the walls. It's the concrete cap that kind of sits on the edge of the wall, that's what was being worked on and 200 feet of that concrete fell straight on the shoulder down below and fortunately one gentleman was hurt."
The freeway was already closed at the time, due to previously scheduled construction work.
No other injuries were reported.
