(WWJ) Charges are pending against a Rochester teen accused of stealing a handgun and other items from vehicles in Oakland Township.
A homeowner along Sussex Drive, near Silverbell and Adams Roads called police to report she saw the 17-year-old suspect standing near her vehicle on her home surveillance system, late Monday night.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded and found the teen a few blocks away in a "suspicious vehicle." When deputies questioned the teen, they said he couldn't come up with a reason for being in the area.
Deputies said they found a stolen handgun inside the suspect's vehicle, along with other items which appeared to be recently stolen. The suspect then allegedly admitted to deputies that burglarized several vehicles in the area.
The sheriff's office said the victims were a 58-year-old woman, a 31-year-old woman, a 37-year-old man and 18-year-old man; all of them residents of Oakland Township.
The suspect, whose name is being withheld pending an arraignment, was arrested and lodged at the Oakland County Jail to await criminal charges.
The gun was returned to its registered owner.
The investigation is ongoing.
