(WWJ) Roseville police are investigating the death of a toddler under the care of a babysitter.
The 2 1/2-year-old victim, identified in published reports as "Jeremiah," was found unresponsive at his babysitter's home, in the 29000 block of Utica Rd. in Roseville, Sunday morning.
According to investigators, the babysitter, the 2 1/2-year-old victim, child's twin brother and a sister were all involved in an auto crash in the hours before the child's death.
It is alleged, according to reports, that the 33-year-old babysitter had the kids in the car without car seats, and did not call 911 or otherwise report the accident to police.
FOX 2 reports Jeremiah's sister had a bruised and bloody face and Jeremiah was crying, according to the sister. The father, Gerald Redmond, told the TV station his daughter said the babysitter used a bag of frozen potatoes as an icepack for the children, and put them to bed.
In the morning, Jeremiah didn't wake up.
Police said the Roseville Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has been diligently working on the investigation, and officials do not yet know for certain if the crash was a factor in the boy's death.
As the investigation continues, unclear yet what charges the babysitter may face.
The Roseville PD has consulted with the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office and will be awaiting results from the Medical Examiner's Office before any charges are sought. "We will be seeking the highest appropriate charges if any in this tragic loss of a child," police added, in a statement.
The babysitter's name has not been released.
