Get A Phone Call About Missing Jury Duty? It's A Scam

unknown caller phone

DETROIT (WWJ) - A new scam is being reported in metro Detroit involving Wayne County residents.

The county's Third Circuit Court is warning that someone has been putting out calls to residents, advising that they missed jury duty and will have to pay a fine immediately to avoid jail.

The caller claims to be a police officer or a court deputy, even providing a badge or phone number. They then ask to meet the resident for payment in cash or gift cards.

Court officials say they never make calls about jury duty and will never ask for personal information, like a person's address or social security number, over the phone.

Anyone who receives the call is advised to hang up and report it to your local police department.

If you miss jury duty, you should contact the court. If you do not call, you may receive an order requiring your presence in court on a specific date to explain why you missed jury duty.
