BAY TOWNSHIP (WWJ/AP) - A Shelby Township man who took the phrase "make yourself at home" too literally has been arrested in northern Michigan after he allegedly moved into someone else's seasonal home.
Police say 55-year-old Jeffrey Donius is charged with home invasion. He's currently lodged in the Charlevoix County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Donius was taken into custody after deputies found him living in a home in Bay Township, about 265 miles northwest of Detroit. The property owner's belongings had been moved out of the house, the locks were changed and a new mailbox was put up, according to the sheriff's office.
Inside the home, deputies found property that had been reported stolen from another home in a nearby community. Police say it appears Donius was casing other properties both in and outside of Charlevoix County.
It's unclear how long Donius may have been living in the home.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information, or who thinks they may be a victim, is asked to contact the Charlevoix County Sheriff's Office at 231-547-4461.
