FERNDALE (WWJ) - It was like a scene out of the wild west in Ferndale, with three gunman running down Woodward Avenue firing shots at each other.
The incident unfolded around 1 a.m. Friday when shots rang out outside of The Bosco Lounge on Woodward just north of 9 Mile Road.
Police say the suspects ran north along Woodward and continued to exchange gunfire, then turned on Breckenridge and went into a neighborhood where they continued shooting. Evidence markers at the scene indicate that more than 40 shots were fired in total.
"This was from somebody that could not get into the bar," Jay Noonchester, owner of The Bosco, told WWJ's Charlie Langton.
Two men were struck by gunfire; both are identified as Detroit residents. One victim, a 37-year-old, remains hospitalized in critical condition and hasn't been able to speak with police. The other victim, a 36-year-old, was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand and released from the hospital.
Police recovered three guns at the scene and believe the weapons were used by three separate suspects. Two suspects were taken into custody. The third suspect remains at large.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what led up to the shooting.
As an investigation continues, police say there is no ongoing threat or danger to community.
