(WWJ) What started as a heartbreaking story in Macomb County has quickly become a heartwarming one.

The local community, and strangers from all over have come together to raise more than $1,000 to replace a little Shelby Township boy's stolen bicycle.

It's no ordinary bike. The special three-wheeler was custom-built for 12-year-old Leland, according to his family.

Leland, has cerebral palsy, wanted to be able to ride with his sisters, and the yellow trike allows him to do it.

Here's the good part: A GoFundMe account activated by Leland's mom, Jennifer Kraft, sought to raise a few hundred dollars to replace the bike.

But after just one day, generous donors have already pledged $1,165 to the cause.

A message posted by Kraft on the GoFundMe site reads:

"Yesterday morning, we discovered Leland's bike had been stolen from our yard. We live in an apartment and we do not have access to a shed/garage or any real type of way to secure belongings outside. Still stealing a bike is not acceptable. Leland has cerebral palsy, ADHS, and falls on the autism spectrum. This all stems from a stroke he suffered in utero. The bike he had was an adult 3 wheel tricycle. It helps keep him steady and safe so he can ride a bike," Kraft wrote.

"This was a birthday present this year. After the time it took to receive it, put it together, receive missing parts and our brother in law specialize the breaks/gear shifter to Leland's good side, he has had it less than 2 months. It was a 400 dollar bike. I know asking others to help pay for someone else's mistake is a lot to ask but he deserves this so very much. He's very upset. As we all are. Thank you for taking the time to read and help if you choose to."

Earlier, Kraft told reporters that whomever took the bike can return it, no questions asked. She doesn't want to press charges.
