STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Not long after sending out photos, Sterling Heights police say they have identified a person of interest in the hit-and-run death of a pedestrian.
While they have not released the man's name, police said they were able to make a positive ID Tuesday afternoon "due to the great assistance from the media and the public."
"Great work to all of our detectives out there and might we add super fast! The subject in question has been located thanks to all of your help. You all deserve a pat on the back for cracking this case," police said.
Earlier asking for tips, investigators said they wanted to speak to a man seen in surveillance video, along with a 2017 or 2018 black Jeep Grand Cherokee, about the fatal crash over the weekend.
It's unclear at this time whether or not that man in the photos was arrested.

On Sunday, at around 7:35 p.m., police said a 45-year-old Sterling Heights man was walking along Dequindre Rd., north of Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd.), when he was struck by a vehicle like the one pictured. The driver fled the scene, police said.
The pedestrian died of his injuries at a local hospital. His name has not been released.
Anyone with information about this case can call Officer Richard Clark of the Sterling Heights Traffic Safety Bureau at 586-446-2920.
