WARREN, Mich. (WWJ) -- A suspect in an armed robbery in Eastpointe after ramming a stolen vehicle a police car during a traffic stop in Warren early Wednesday morning.
Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer tells WWJ an officer attempted to pull over a white Nissan Ultima around 12:20 a.m. in the area of Knox and Wellington Avenues, when the driver put the car into reverse and slammed into the semi-marked traffic patrol car.
The suspect the fled west on Knox to Schoenherr Road, then south toward 8 Mile Road. Dwyer says the suspect disregarded a red light near 8 Mile fled into Detroit. Police officers in Detroit were unable to clear traffic at 8 Mile and lost track of the suspect after he turned into a subdivision.
The car had several other occupants inside, but Dwyer said police could not confirm how many people.
The stolen vehicle has been implicated in an armed robbery in Eastpointe.
Dwyer says the driver could be charged with felonious assault with a motor vehicle, in addition to the Eastpoint robbery, when an arrest is made.
No injuries were suffered during the collision at the traffic stop, and the police car sustained minor damage.
