High Winds, Thunderstorms Leave Thousands Without Power

CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - Thousands of people across metro Detroit are without power after gusty thunderstorms passed through the area overnight.

As of early Wednesday morning, DTE Energy said 10,000 power outages remain -- mostly in Chesterfield Township north of Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Crews are still out assessing the damage, but they're hoping to have the power back on by the end of the day for most customers.

Wind gusts reached nearly 50 miles per hour near Selfridge Tuesday night, leading to many downed power lines.

DTE says other areas hit hard were St. Clair, Mount Clemens and Monroe.
