The 17-year-old boy from Hazel Park died after he was critically injured in the crash on Woodward near MLK Boulevard in Pontiac.
Police say the teen was in the back seat and not wearing a seat belt at the point of collision. Two others were injured in the incident.
All three victims had to be extricated from the GMC Terrain, which struck a tree in Woodward median around 3 p.m. Saturday. The driver, a 19-year-old man from Pontiac, was last listed in critical condition. The front seat passenger, a 19-year-old man from Texas, is in serious condition.
