Teen Facing Felony Charge After Threat At Huron High School

HURON TWP. (WWJ) - A 15-year-old boy is facing a felony charge for allegedly making a threat against a school Downriver.

Classes at Huron High School were let out early Tuesday after administrators learned of the threat, which was made online late Monday night. Police say the threat referenced a school shooting and was reported by a third party who attends the school, but was not the person that initially received the threat.

The threat was specific to Huron High School and targeted a student that the suspect believed was a student at the school.

Police tracked the threat online and identified a 15-year-old boy as the suspect. The teen, who is not a student at Huron High, was arrested at his home in Southgate Tuesday afternoon.

The teen remains in custody at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Center, pending a felony charge of making a terroristic threat.

While the case remains under investigation, extra police patrols are expected at all Huron Township school buildings Wednesday as a precaution.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Donovan Rowe stressed that student safety is their primary concern

"We will continue to work closely with the Huron Township Police Department to keep our schools safe," he said. "It is unfortunate that, like many other school districts, we found ourselves in a situation such as this. Nevertheless, I appreciate your patience and trust in our process as we continue to work to keep our students safe."
