(WWJ) Police still don't know who killed Kendra Simpson, two years following her murder on Detroit's east side.
Now a cash reward of up to $2,500 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
Simpson, 29, was fatally during what police believe was an attempted carjacking on August 22, 2018, outside some apartments at 14400 Elmdale St. at Chalmers St., in the area of I-94 and Outer Drive.
According to her family, Simpson was picked up from work around 1 a.m. by a friend and two others in her silver 2010 Buick Lacrosse, and they drove the Elmdale location.
As Simpson and her passengers were parked, a black Ford Crown Victoria pulled up behind them, blocking them in the driveway.
A masked suspect wearing all black got out of the Buick, armed with a long gun, and opened fire at the group.
Simpson was shot four times and was pronouced dead at the scene.
Her friends, a 31-year-old woman, was shot twice in the arm and had a pinky finger detached, police said. Two 19-year-old men were also shot and wounded; one in the lower back and buttock, and the other in the shoulder.
Both the shooter and the driver of the suspect vehicle were described only as Black males.
According to Crime Stoppers, which is renewing its call for tips in the case, Simpson attended the Academy of Oak Park. After high school, her only concern was to go straight into the workforce in an effort to care for her daughter and her mother. She was an employee at Chrysler at the time of her death.
