TRENTON (WWJ) - The Mayor of Trenton has died unexpectedly.
Kyle Stack, who had just won re-election to serve a third term, died Friday night after suffering from two apparent heart attacks. She was 62.
Stack was elected as the city's mayor in 2011. Prior to that, she served as the City Clerk for 26 years and spent 8 years in the Parks and Recreation Department. Mayor Pro-Tem Steven Rzeppa will take over Stack's duties.
Many residents, colleagues and friends have left tributes to Stack on social media, calling her "a great leader and a dedicated friend" to the city.
"Kyle leaves a deep hole in our community. Kyle was not just a close friend and advisor to me, she was a visionary leader of Downriver," Rep. Debbie Dingell said in a statement. "She loved Trenton and devoted everything to see it through good times and bad."
Stack will lie in state at Trenton City Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 3 to 8 p.m., according to reports. A funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Trenton on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m.
