(WWJ) U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice-presidential candidate, will visit Detroit and Flint on Tuesday.
The Biden-Harris campaign made the announcement that she would be coming to Michigan, a key battleground state, this week; but they did not release any further details.
The California senator, 55, made history as the first Black woman and Indian American woman on a major party ticket when she accepted Joe Biden's nomination in late August. Her mother, a breast cancer researcher, was an Indian immigrant. Her father, a professor and economist, immigrated from Jamaica.
Harris is a former district attorney of San Francisco and California state attorney.
Her bio on the Senate's official website said Harris "resolved to spend her life advocating for those who could not defend themselves. " and has "spent her life fighting injustice." Universal access to healthcare, raising minimum wage, and legalizing same-sex marriage are among the causes she said she has been passionate about throughout her career, according to her bio.
Vice President Mike Pence also visited Michigan in late August.
This is a developing story. We will have more information on air, online, and on Radio.com app as we learn more about Senator Harris' visit.
