DETROIT (WWJ) - A man was shot in the face point-blank during a shocking carjacking that was caught on camera at a Detroit gas station.
It happened early Friday morning at the Clark gas station on Dexter Avenue, between Joy Road and the Davison Freeway on the city's west side.
A 50-year-old victim went inside to make a purchase and as he walked back to his SUV, he was approached by two men dressed in all black. The suspects allegedly asked the victim for some cash and when he reached in his pocket, thinking he was helping his fellow man, the suspects pulled a gun and opened fire, striking the victim in the face.
As the victim fell to the ground, the suspects fled the scene in his SUV.
Abraham Almaisari, who owns the gas station, said he heard a shot, then looked outside and saw the victim lying on the ground.
"We ran outside and told the customers to stay behind the register," Almaisari told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "He was bleeding and it was squirting everywhere. We gave him a couple thermals, tied him up and I held the pressure until the ambulance got here."
Almaisari said the ambulance arrived about 30 minutes later to take the victim to the hospital. He suffered a through-and-through gunshot to the face and was last reported in serious condition. He is expected to recover.
The suspects remain at large. Both are described only as black males.
The victim's vehicle is described as a black and silver Isuzu SUV.
