WALLED LAKE (WWJ) - A marijuana business in Walled Lake is the first in Oakland County to receive a license to sell recreational pot.

Greenhouse, on Walled Lake Drive near Pontiac Trail, doesn't have a specific date yet of when it will start selling adult use marijuana, but owners say it will be soon.

The owners want to make sure all of the pieces are in place to ensure they can meet the demand of both their new recreational customers as well as their current medical patients.

"We are humbled. We are grateful. Most of all we are excited that we all get to be a part of the End of Prohibition," the business said on Facebook.

Long lines have been reported at other recreational retailers across the state, so before Greenhouse is ready to open for adult use, they have some renovations to make.

"We have begun construction that will expand our building and allow us to more than double our number of registers and retail space," the company said. "We need to make sure we have enough inventory to not just meet the demands of our new customers but to give them access to a full line of the best flower, the best brands and the best products in the state of Michigan."

It has been legal for Michigan residents and visitors to have up to 2.5 ounces (71 grams) of marijuana on them and up to 10 ounces (284 grams) at home, since December 6, 2018. Recreational sales in Michigan became legal on Dec. 1, 2019.

Roughly 30 retailers across the state have licenses approved for recreational sales, though not all are selling yet.
