(WWJ) It's a chance to get your foot in the door at Comcast, as the cable company looks to hire more than 80 new tech workers.

The jobs are now available across the state, including in metro Detroit. A college degree is not required, and everyone hired will go through a 12 week training course.

"We put them through real life scenarios so that they understand how to troubleshoot, they understand how to install," said Comcast Vice President of Public Relations Michelle Gilbert. "And they also spend time on the job with an experienced technician, shadowing that individual so that they can really understand what they will be doing."

Gilbert notes these Residential Installation & Service Technician positions are physical and involve carrying and climbing ladders, and wriggling through tight crawl spaces.

She told WWJ's Michael Cohen there are now more women interested in a these jobs, which have traditionally been held by men.

"We're finding that not only can women handle the physical parts of the position, that they are really setting the bar very high in terms of being able to improve that customer experience," Gilbert said.

She said many of those taking tech jobs are then able to move up within the company, becoming managers and vice presidents.

There are also some sales jobs available with the company.
